A Laser-Assisted Cellular Electrophysiology Measurement System

Patch-clamp technique is the gold standard for cellular electrophysiological measurements, which capable of measuring single ion transport events across cell membrane. However, measurement possesses significant complexities, and it requires a high level expertise, while its experimental throughput nevertheless considerably low. Here, we suggest experimentally demonstrate laser-assisted method performing measurements. Femtosecond laser pulses, coupled to an optical microscope, are used form sub-micrometer hole on thin polymer membrane separating two electrodes, where nearby subsequently placed onto by negative pressure. Afterwards, punctured using subsequent exposure, revealing over recording. This system could be increase output amount measurements substantially.
